I received word last night that the Sacramento Pro and the Jan Tana will not be returning in 2008.
This is a real setback to the women's game and it's especially disappointing considering the progress they've made as a group (competitors and promoters) over the past two competitive seasons.
I don't know if there's time to convince the promoters to change their minds, but for those who really care (are you hearing me George and Siouxcountry??), I do believe it's worth pursuing.

I wouldn't give Atlantic City a huge chance of being back, either, based on turn-out. Anyone here who has never attended a pro show has contributed to this mess.

What exactly was the step forward? The fact that the shows were on in 2007 gave the women more Olympia-qualifying opportunities, which meant more NEW FACES - and young ones at that - on the Olympia stage. It also gave fans more opportunities to see contest-ready bodybuilders, something a lot of us enjoy. That's clearly a step forward, in my opinion, and I believe the IFBB's business model can and should be modified to allow these events to be reasonably profitable.

I'm inexperienced and not a great fan of the way that Pro FBBing does what it does, but it seems to me as a layman schmoe that the IFBB are like the proverbial guy spinning in ever decreasing circles and are therefore at risk of disappearing up their collective fundamental orifice. They just don't seem to take a long-term view.

If I could get Annie, Cindy, Na Na, Sarah, Nicole, and Bonnie for a show I would probably try to figure out how to host one myself.

As long as these organizations keep rewarding girls with 2% body fat and faces like dudes, the sport will remain in trouble.

agreed with the 2% bodyfat and hard faces. I stopped going a few years ago and I was someone who went to anything and everything I could. It's just too much. The European shows look better to me.

Amanda, Just curious in your own opinion, what do you think should happen to change this? If you had the power or if your were running the program, What things would you implement differently than what exists right now? What incentive do you have in mind for the competitors? And what kind of promotion and marketing will you do to improve the fbb image to the general public and at the same time make it more profitable? Would bring female bodybuilding back to network and cable tv?

Really? Wow, that sucks. Do we know this for sure? Or is it just a rumor?
Cindy - There's also still the Europa. It still sucks though, especially because the Arnold is invitation-only.

Every year it's a step back for the women. This will put an absolute stranglehold on the womens side of the sport. To get this thing breathing again it might take some kinda massive grassroots effort for new contests.
I think I'll roll over and go back to bed..................

It's a shame they always have the contests in places that people don't want to go to except for the competitions in Las Vegas. I think more people would go if they could combine it into a vacation. Also with all the cable channels I'm surprised none of them have any interest in reporting about it.

its a tough go, there are enough fbb fans out there to support shows...the problem is that fans like fbbs are so scattered about there is not a large central location for tyhem that makes pinpointing a prime location for a womens show all that much harder. The other thing is a lot of us fbb fans are like the guy that Valentina recently married grocery clerks that are basically making ends meet with not a lot of money to spare. I am in this group too i cant afford to go to Atlantic City for a weekend after i have already been to Cleveland and the Arnold for shows this year . the ticket office and funding is where it ultimately counts and if its not there then no show.

Part of the problem is that people go to the wrong cities for shows, like going to Cleveland for the Arnold. And Scottnva is right, many of us are Alaskan grocery clerks. However, the real reason is that there are simply not enough people interested in the sport. You can fit all the shmoes that are willing to show their faces at FBB shows into a high school auditorium. There is no way to fix this problem.

Are there still alot of men's pro bodybuilding shows or is it a trend for them also? The title of this thread suggests it's only a problem for pro fbbs.
