Kay Baxter on Video
Company:
GMV Productions
Kay Baxter was without a doubt the best, and most innovative female
bodybuilders in the early 1980's. Although I was much too young to have seen
her physique; thankfully GMV and WPW have footage of
superwomen Kay Baxter. According to WPW, Kay died in a car accident in
1988. The GMV video was shot in 1984 during the last stretches
of her career before she retired.
Kay developed an "ultra-ripped" and mature physique for
the times. Even now, her physique is simply amazing considering it's
almost 20 years ago that she was at her peak. Kay opens
the video on stage guest posing for an enthusiastic crowd. Next we
find ourselves on Venice beach watching
Baxter pump and pose her incredibly muscular physique. Her upper body
is very dense and developed, and her abdominals are surprisingly
defined. Her quads don't stand out much, but overall they fit pretty
well with the rest of her physique.
After an enjoyable pump on a sunny day at the beach, Kay returns to
the studio for some flexing and posing in a wide assortment of tight
fitting outfits. Kay seems very comfortable on camera, smoothly
pumping her hardbod for the audience. The upper body really stands out
in the studio, her biceps and shoulders are definite assets. Our
encounter with Kay ends with guest posing by Kay with a group of
friends and other female bodybuilders at a local event.
GMV recently converted this video to DVD, for this review I watched
the VHS tape. I'm certain the quality of the DVD will be much better
than VHS. So, I'm keen on seeing the DVD as compared to the VHS tape.
Just some 411 for everyone.
Pros about the video
- A pioneer in female bodybuilding.
- Very muscular, and developed for the 1980's
- Beautiful shape, and overall appeal
Cons about the video
- Gallasch's usual framing techniques weren't as tight in this video,
his approach was a more creative effort to reflect Kay Baxter's
freestyle posing.
- The video quality has an authentic film appearance that some may
find lacking on VHS tape. DVD may be a better option.
Final Thoughts
For the true fans of bodybuilding, seeing Kay Baxter on video brings us
back in time to the beginning of female bodybuilding. Kay started to
compete in the late 1970's before the Ms. Olympia even existed!! Even
today her physique is impressive, and very mature. All in all, an
interesting video.
