Femsport Valkyrie Fest - FVF 2002
Company:
Fem Flex
The Femsport Valkyrie Fest is an event that is sponsored by Diana the Valkyrie.
If you don't know about the Valkyrie -- then you've been in a cave, at
least in the online world of female bodybuilding and strength. Diana's
website has supported many female bodybuilders and athletes for many
years. In 2002, Diana put up more than $5,000 in cash and prizes for
the 2002 FVF. A diverse group of female athletes converged
from across the United States and Canada to compete at the
event.
The event was hosted at the lovely Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre on the waterfront in beautiful Vancouver, BC. Many aspiring
figure, fitness and bodybuilding athletes were set and ready to rumble
to prove their strength and athleticism. The first phase of the event
was the physique comparison of all of the women segmented in the
figure and strength classes. The vast majority of the women are very
much newcomers, while a few competitors some people will already
know.
The comparisons go through various bodybuilding poses like side
chest, abdominals and thighs to back double biceps. All competitors
even if they are only figure must execute all of the physique posing
requirements. It was definitely a challenge to quickly pan through all
of the physiques. FemFlex really needed more cameras, as there was
simply too many bodies to capture on video. With the huge amount of
athletes, the panning was really quick and hard to watch at times. No
worries, the interesting events would soon arrive.
After all of the key comparisons were completed, the head-to-head strength
events began. The push-ups competition, paired two women against each
other to pumped out the most push-ups in 2 minutes. All of the women
put in their best efforts, and were all fully exhausted by the end of
their allotted time. The winner of the push-up round pumped out over
70 reps with relative ease. The "gasoline can sprint" was the
second stage of
the strength contest, and proved very entertaining. Finally, the tug
of war competition was my favourite, with the bodybuilding women
dominating the entire contest.
Once all of the strength the events were completed the judges
compared the top physiques one last time to determine the winner. The
figure and strength athletes were compared, and sized by the judges.
Mindi O'Brien from Canada won the physique category. She was superb,
and very conditioned for the contest. Mindi was also one of the top
women in the push-up event, with about 67 strict push-ups executed.
Pros about the video
- Figure, Fitness and Bodybuilding women that are strong and fresh
- An event that supports womens strength
- Mindi O'Brien, a Canadian Fitness competitor wins! She's rock hard.
Cons about the video
- More cameras were needed for the first comparison rounds. One
camera wasn't enough for all of the athletes.
- A tripod should have be used in comparison rounds for accurate
panning of the athletes.
Final Thoughts
FemFlex produced a video that really has roots for our core readers.
The event supports strong, athletic female competitors in physique and
strength areas. The FVF event was entertaining to watch, and
well organized. Many unknown women competed, which gives the video a
unique experience for the viewer. I honestly have no real bad feelings
with this video, my only suggestion would be getting more camera
coverage for future events of this nature.
